During a difficult period in het life, Angelique (44) discovered the Meditation Moments app — a discovery that has changed her life in several ways.

How did you come across the Meditation Moments app?

“During the Covid era I fell ill and was left with extreme fatigue. My GP referred me to a physiotherapist, where I had to do a body-scan, but relax? I simply couldn’t. I was a walking head — everything happened in my mind, with zero connection to my body.

I Googled ‘body scan’ and found the Meditation Moments app. At that point my body had basically pulled the plug: I couldn’t do anything, felt woollyheaded, had brain-fog… The only thing I could tolerate were the meditations.

The physio also advised me to walk, so I put in my earbuds and strolled while listening to meditations. It became a daily ritual.”

What does the app do for you mentally?

“The biggest thing I’ve learned is to switch off my thoughts more easily. Tens of thousands of thoughts race through my head each day, and most are nonsense. Meditation trains me to focus — on one line, one affirmation or just my breath. It has taught me to halt that constant noise and turn inward.”

Which parts of the app do you use the most?

“I love the sleep stories. My husband laughed at first: ‘Sleep stories? Aren’t those for kids?’ Then we tried one together and both fell asleep in no time. The narration is so vivid — you’re drawn right into the story.

I also enjoy the Flow sessions. You don’t have to go anywhere; you can practise at home. And I play the app’s music during my Reiki sessions — the calm energy supports my work as a holistic therapist.”

Has the app improved your sleep?

“Absolutely. Falling asleep is much easier now. I used to watch TV before bed, which isn’t great for sleep. Thanks to the calm in my mind I now sleep deeper and stay asleep.

What’s nice is that you can use the app any time of day. I often start the morning with a walk and the app is on immediately. Sometimes I slip in a short session during the day, and I use it again at night. There isn’t one fixed moment — it’s woven through my whole day.”

How else does the app help you?

“It helps me unwind and release daily frenzy. We’re so used to just pushing on — breakfast, commute, traffic, cook dinner, flop on the couch, day done. The sessions teach me to truly pause. To feel: ‘Oh right, I have a body tagging along all day.’ Everyone has time; you just need the courage to claim it.

I’ve also realised you don’t have to take every thought seriously. I used to think: if I think it, it must be true. It isn’t. Meditation helps me ask: ‘Is this really important, or can it wait?’ I worry far less now.

And I’ve learned to put myself first. I always cared for others first — I came last. Now I know: if you take good care of yourself first, only then can you truly be there for others. I intend to keep that up.”

What would you tell someone who’s hesitating?

“Just try it. The app’s free to test, and you don’t have to sit on a meditation cushion straight away. Start small: pick a simple exercise or just listen to a meditation with no expectations. See how it feels. It’s enriched my life — and I wish that for everyone.”
