DMT breathing: the connected breath

More and more people are becoming open to the idea that breathing can support self-healing and inner growth. For example, connected breathing or DMT breathing is said to help with expansion of consciousness, dissolving emotional blockages and processing trauma.

What is connected breathing?

The name kind of gives it away: with connected breathing, you omit the pauses between your inhale and exhale. You actually breathe in a circle and let your breathing flow into each other.

The benefits of connected breathing are:

  • Less stress and burnout symptoms
  • Better sleep
  • Sense of rest and relaxation
  • Better focus and concentration
  • More energy
  • Being in the here and now
  • More confidence in your own body
  • Processing trauma
  • Dissolving emotional blockages
  • Strong connection with your intuition

Because the benefits of connected breathing are often similar to those of DMT, some people believe that DMT is released while doing breathing exercises. Unfortunately, research has not yet been able to prove this.

What is DMT

DMT stands for dimenthyltryptamine: a powerful psychedelic substance that occurs naturally in various plants and animals. DMT is produced naturally in the brain and is known for its mind-altering effects. With your birth and death - as well as intense events, fasting and intense breathing - our pineal gland is believed to produce more DMT.

The pineal gland is located deep in the brain and is responsible for the production of the chemical melatonin. In mystical traditions, the pineal gland is known as the third eye or seat of the soul. Mystics believe that stimulating the pineal gland causes the release of DMT. This is said to be the substance responsible for having special experiences, breakthroughs and insights while practicing special breathing techniques.

Science has shown that activation of the pineal gland reduces anxiety, depression, heart disease, aging and the effects of trauma and stress.

How do you release DMT through breathing?

Connected breathing or DMT breathing has become increasingly popular in alternative medicine in recent years. Breathing techniques to release DMT are used in the treatment of various diseases, such as asthma, cancer, heart disease, depression, anxiety disorders and PTSD. But you can also use breathing exercises to sleep better or relax.

DMT is often associated with psychedelic experiences (DMT is the active ingredient in the hallucinogenic drink ayahuasca and has been used for centuries in religious ceremonies in various South American cultures). But many mystics are convinced that you can also release DMT naturally through a combination of breathing, visualization and listening to healing music.
