Sabrina: “Since I started using the app, I sleep well every night”

Sabrina began using the Meditation Moments app two years ago. What started as a sceptical attempt to improve her sleep has grown into a fixed part of her daily routine, profoundly benefiting her rest and mental balance.

How did you discover the Meditation Moments app?

“A lifestyle coach recommended it. At first I wasn’t keen — mindfulness and meditation sounded a bit airy-fairy to me, and I’d already tried an app with nature sounds (I live by the sea, so that didn’t do much). Still, I decided to give it a shot. I lay in bed with my earbuds and put on a sleep story. I think I heard maybe six minutes … and from that night on I’ve never managed to stay awake till the end. That was two years ago.”

What does meditation mean to you?

“For me, meditating is letting everything go for a moment. No fancy postures — I’m not sitting cross-legged on a cushion. Sometimes I just slip a short session in whenever it fits. With two kids, a dog and a busy life, those pockets of calm are really important.”

How does the app help you in everyday life?

“First of all: I’m sleeping again. Since I started with the app I fall asleep quickly every night, and if I wake up I simply switch it back on and drift off again. That has been a game-changer.

It’s also helped me relax during the day. I used to think flopping on the sofa with the TV was relaxing, but it didn’t recharge me. On holiday I can read a book, but at home that never happens. Then I listened to the audiobook Dansen in de Hemel in the app while macramé-ing. I realised I was completely out of my head and inside the story — so relaxing!”

What changes have you noticed?

“I’m calmer. Not always — I’m still human — but I now recognise when I need a pause, and that awareness is valuable. When I’m stressed it feels like I’m ‘on fire’ inside. Then I know I need to downshift. Last summer I had such a moment and played the meditation Silence in the Middle of Chaos — instant relief, back to myself.”

How do you use the app throughout the day?

“Every evening. Most nights I do a yoga-nidra session or listen to a sleep story. I also like the evening affirmations. My youngest daughter listens to a sleep story every night now — it’s our routine.

During the day I use the app too, especially while finishing my studies. I often play the ‘study beats’ to stay focused, and when I walk the dog I turn on a walking meditation. If I walk without it, my head fills up again with to-do lists.”

What else do you use besides the meditations?

“The audiobooks are a real asset — I’ve listened to almost all of them. I use the music playlists a lot while studying, and I was surprised how much I enjoy the Flow sessions. What I love most is that there’s something for every moment, whether you want to relax, focus or simply reconnect with yourself.”

What would you say to someone who’s still unsure?

“Just try it. You can have all sorts of ideas about it, but only through experience will you discover what it does for you. Explore the app — there’s so much more in there than you’d expect at first glance.”
